We don’t need a VPN connection and we don’t create one, either. It’s superficial. As Mobiwol opens the VPN package to gain access to the apps’ traffic, it appears as if we are creating a VPN connection. We use VPN package as that’s the only way to monitor the incoming/outgoing traffic, without requiring root permissions.
Rooting your device is a complex process and you can brick your phone if you don’t know what you’re
doing. It even voids the manufacturer’s warranty. Rooting also compromises your privacy as you grant
ALL permissions to an app by default, even if they don’t ask for it.
Use of the VPN, on the other hand, doesn’t void your warranty. It can be disabled any time you want, and unlike rooting, you know exactly which permissions you’re giving to our app.
It’s an illusion. Mobiwol uses your device’s VPN package to create a firewall. As every data packet sent
or received by your apps passes through the VPN, all the incoming and outgoing data traffic gets attributed
The good part, however, is that Mobiwol now comes with its own Data Usage feature which allows you to check data usage for each app. To view the usage, choose Data Usage from the home screen.
Unfortunately, no. This request is coming from your Android operating system, and is required to allow Mobiwol access to the VPN package. We cannot bypass this approval process without root permissions.
This is not a bug. WiFi tethering and WiFi hotspots are, unfortunately, not currently compatible with Mobiwol being enabled.
We make a point of only asking for the permissions we need to support Mobiwol's features and ensure optimal performance and support. Click here for an overview of our app's permissions.
